Well, that’s it for another year,
From Oxford Motor Club a very big thank you to everyone that took part on our Boanerges AutoSolo and PCA and for supporting us on this and our other events during the year.
We suffered more than a few problems with the technology but it didn’t affect the enthusiasm and enjoyment of the competitors
We have a special thank you to the event organisers who laid on another super event and to our marshals who stood out in some very cold weather to facilitate the day.
Our CoC Colin Minchin devised some interesting tests with the limitations we have using the track design and he got it spot on.
During set up [most of which had to be redone on the morning after a very windy evening] we thought that it might be a bit fast but everyone had a smile on their faces especially after the two big tests.
Onto the event.
Starting with the PCA it was a titanic battle between brothers Ade and Rich Welsh.
Right from Test 1 there was no more than a couple of seconds either way separating them with Ade taking the win by a margin of 0.8 seconds.
In Class A it was a battle of the Minis of Bob Milligan and John Fox.
Again, two equally experienced drivers in similar cars had just a couple of seconds between then all day with Bob just taking the win by a margin of 2.3 seconds
In Class B Jamie Yapp had 12 clean runs to take the win.
Likewise in Class C Kieran Belcher had 12 clean runs to take the win.
Another battle in Class D where Steve Conner shared his car with Ollie Jenkins and kept us glued to the timesheets.
With just fractions of a second separating them throughout the day it was Ollie who, after the 12 runs with both accrueing penalties, took the win by just 0.2 seconds.
Ollie took the Class win because Liam Rollings was elevated to FTD.
Class E was where the drama took place.
James Weekley in his amazing Caterham 420R on his very first Autosolo [albeit with some race experience] put on a show to worry the top drivers.
From being just 1.2 seconds behind on the first test while learning the event he led the field on the next two to take an overall lead of 5.6 seconds.
Then, due to the failing technology putting the event back nearly an hour and a demand to return to work, he had to retire for the last test handing the Class win to Jason Brown and FTD to Liam Rollings.
So, onto 2025 and our AutoSolo dates for your diaries are Sundays MAY 4th and OCTOBER 12th both at Shenington. Our spring date has been put forward due to circuit restriction and falls on the Bank Holiday so we hope this will not affect our attendance.
Add our Bullnose Targa at Kemble in June [exact date to be confirmed] and we have an enjoyable calendar for you.
