Many thanks to everyone who came along to our Autosolo at Finmere on October 4th. Despite the loss of part of the venue a few weeks beforehand and the terrible weather conditions on the day, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
First of all, may I thank all the timekeepers for their fantastic work under very trying circumstances, compounded a bit by using the new timing app.
Also I need to thank the Marshals manning the course and being fixed radios. Normally we use the competitors to do the radio marshalling bit.
The greatest thanks goes to the logistics team for the transport of the kit, setting up of the course in the ‘belting rain’ on the Saturday, then putting all the kit back in the garage in the dry and dark on the Sunday, They all had jobs running the event on the day as well.
Well done to the competitors for coming. Driving some distance in the dark in a monsoon was a tad trying. Dodging the odd lake and fallen trees, tested the nerve of quite a few of us.
A spanner chucked into the works, two weeks before the day with a phone message that we can’t go though the trees. The new land owner decided to peck up one of the concrete pans. I then had to redraw the test diagrams to suit what we the Club were left with. The A43 was having major road works going on and, the spoil from that was being dumped on a concrete pan we were not going to use. It was just another thing that could to go wrong to foul up the day for us.
The weather conspired to ruin the day but failed. Its eventual submission resulted in the rain giving up around 2pm, and a still and eventually sunny clear up.
The very wet condition and aggressive driving took its toll on the venue surface as the hydraulic action broke the failing concrete and the tarmac additions. Most competitor were very understanding and went away happy at the end of the day.
Harvey, our photographer was ill so had to head home before the action started so unfortunately we have no photographs on this occasion.
