On behalf of Oxford Motor Club can I thank everyone for being involved by helping to organise, marshal and compete on our Bocardo AutoSolo.
After all the wonderful weather during the previous week the temperature dropped considerable so I think our timing crews who stood out all day really deserve our special thanks. Mind you, it would have been just as bad if the opposite had been the case.
Fortunately the conditions stayed dry and everyone seemed to enjoyed the day.
A link to the Results can be found below for those of you that were not studying the app all day although I suspect the timekeepers do not want to see those screens again for a while.
This popular event was a round of six championship, ACSMC, ASWMC, CMSG, BTRDA, Bristol Junior [under 17’s] and our own Club Championship.
Congratulations to Alec Tunbridge for FTD on his first visit to Shenington and congratulations to all the other award winners who are listed below.
In Class A Bob Milligan’s little Mini was unbeatable taking the class win by 14 seconds. Notably George Thompson at just 17 was fifth in class.
In Class B it was David Fooks who took the win by 18 seconds but it was a tight battle all day between Andy Laurance and Alan Wakeman with Andy taking second by 1.5 seconds.
Class was dominated by Keiran Belcher using Dad’s Subaru Impreza after the Renault has mechanical problems.
Again Class D provided the excitement. After losing by just a couple of seconds to Jamie Yapp at Curborough when the cone layout caught him out Liam Rollings had his revenge beating Jamie by just 0.7 seconds. What would the result have been if Jamie didn’t have to change cars when the Mazda’s clutch gave out.
Steve Conner was always in the running until a rogue cone caught him out on the last test leaving him to take third in class.
The whole of Class E were glad it didn’t rain as they were all open topped cars.
Alec Tunbridge made the long journey south for his first Oxford event for some years and his first Shenington and was full of praise for the long open tests that allowed him to test the Caterham to take the class win by just 2.6 seconds over James Weekley’s Westfield. John Fox in another Caterham was third.
In the Production Car Autotest it was Nigel Walton who took the honours in his Mazda. Following a day’s competing on a sprint at Goodwood he was very enthusiastic about our day and I got the impression he will be an Autosolo convert.
We were really impressed by the Junior competitors, I’m sure it won’t be long before they are worrying some of the top drivers.
Some comments on our event:
Thanks to Oxford Motor Club for organising such a fabulous event.
Hope to be back in October!
Thanks for a cracking event.
Thanks again for a great event. Speaking to a few people yesterday it is now the highlight of their motorsport calendar so keep up the good work.
Excellent event and very imaginative use of the venue.
I did enjoy my visit to your venue, for the first time, and I know the many competitors I spoke with did enjoy your event, both your organisation and venue.
A great day, especially the long tests. A real test of concentration. I’m a covert to Autosolos.
My first Oxford Solo but it won’t be my last. Well organised, friendly and welcoming. I might be faster next time.
